What better way to describe high DHT than from this guy’s comment on one of my Youtube videos?
When I have high DHT, I get strong morning wood, erections in general, feel confident, charismatic with low anxiety.
My cognitive health improves the ability to formulate and think becomes very clear, calm, fluid and fast. Thinking in general feels clearer, basically no brain fog.
Power output and explosivness increases. I feel very masculine and comfortable in my own skin aka body language. Thinking is more manlier; thinking becomes less obedient, more free thinking but open to ideas and able to think outside the box.
More aggressive when working out or exerting myself. Hair growth becomes thicker for me when DHT is high; it feels less dull and slow to grow but becomes shinier, thicker and livelier instead of dull. My voice becomes slightly deeper or lets say masculine/grainier tone instead of a nerdy man tone. Body hair slightly darker too.
Energy is high, desire to push and achieve towards a goal becomes high. Muscle definition increases, better facial aesthetics, harder denser muscles, hitting PRs constantly and love effort pushing through pain.

Why high DHT will make you a superior human being
DHT has been shown to:
Improve sexual function (even when testosterone is already high)
Reduce body fat and give you a more lean and hard look
Reduce inflammation
Improve gut health
Reduce anxiety and depression
Improve the metabolic rate
Boost brain health. DHT is inversely correlated with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative conditions
Make you more stress-resilient
Enhance motivation and drive since it potent regulates the dopamine system
On the other side, inhibiting 5 alpha reductase has been shown to:
Slow the metabolic rate
Shrink the penis
Contribute to ED and low libido
Reduce muscle mass and strength
Contribute to anxiety and depression
and many other side effects a man doesn’t want
But wait, there’s more.
5-alpha reductase doesn’t just create DHT from testosterone, but also:
androsterone from DHEA (extremely important for libido)
allopregnanolone from progesterone (important for brain health as well as reducing anxiety and depression)
5-alpha reductase also enhances the breakdown of cortisol, thus shrinking the overall cortisol pool.
Inhibiting 5AR will reduce your strongest androgen (DHT) and neurosteroids (think more stress, anxiety, insomnia, etc.) and increase cortisol (think belly fat, insulin resistance, heightened stress, poor sleep, etc.).
As you can see in the graph, testosterone remains the same, but DHT drops and cortisol increases.
Blocking 5AR dramatically lowers the anabolic and androgenic to cortisol ratio.
Inhibiting 5AR will not only make you less androgenic, but also more estrogenic and catabolic. Not a look I think most men want.
I’d love high DHT, but won’t DHT make me bald?
Even though DHT contributes to hair loss, it doesn’t cause it.
There is no difference in circulating blood DHT levels between men who are going bald and those who aren’t.
Hair loss is caused by oxidative stress in the scalp. Oxidative stress is when damaging molecules overwhelm the natural defense system of the body, causing damage. The hair follicle can’t regenerate fast enough and hair loss occurs.
Excess DHT in the scalp might accelerate this process, but it is benign when there is no/little oxidative stress.
Here is some backup from scientific papers so that you know I’m not just sucking this out of my thumb.
From a 2016 study:
“Decreased total antioxidant activity and increased MDA levels found in plasma samples of patients with androgenetic alopecia are indicators of oxidative stress presence in these patients.” (R)
And a 2021 study:
“We found increased oxidative stress in younger patients with early-onset AGA. There is need for further molecular studies on the role of oxidative stress in the etiopathogenesis of AGA. We also think that topical or systemic antioxidants can be promising in treatment of AGA, especially for young patients.” (R)
On top of that, finasteride “works” because
Some people think that finasteride is the only solution for hair loss, but there are thousands of studies on other natural compounds that they don’t know about.

Doesn’t DHT contribute to prostate cancer?
DHT causes prostatic growth, that’s a fact. However, it doesn’t just cause grow to infinity.
DHT is protective. According to this 2020 study: “High DHT levels were positively correlated to a lower risk for prostate cancer death.” (R)
Estrogen is one of the main culprits when it comes to prostate enlargement. Inhibiting aromatase and lowering estradiol results in a much larger shrinkage in prostate volume than inhibiting DHT production.
Also, boosting DHT in the body doesn’t lead to a boost in DHT in the prostate since the prostate is good at regulating its own DHT levels.
Boosting testosterone isn’t enough.
Yes DHT is created from testosterone, but just boosting testosterone isn’t enough. This is because a suboptimal diet (filled with 5AR inhibitory mines) won’t ensure high DHT as well.
If your testosterone to DHT ratio isn’t at least 10:1, then there is some work to be done. Most people don’t even know what the right diet is to optimize testosterone. And even if they do (to an extent), then it’s not nearly adequate to maximize DHT.
